My story began long before Done Rite Carpet Care existed. As a middle school latch key kid after my parents’ divorce, I took it upon myself to help my mom, who was working two full-time and one part-time job to support four kids. I wanted to clean the house and keep the carpets looking fresh so she could come home and rest.

But every time I cleaned the carpet, the same spots reappeared. Before one Thanksgiving, the color was dull, the fibers were stiff, and all the stains I had removed were back – bigger and darker. I felt like I had failed her.

Eventually she hired a professional cleaner, but that experience was terrible too. Around the same time, my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. My emotions shut down, and I started making destructive choices that landed me in jail. Looking back, that was God’s way of stopping me from going further down a dark path.

At 21, I was a drug addict with a colorful past, living with my aunt and her five kids. I wanted to turn my life around, work with my hands, help people, and make my family proud. Most jobs required a clean drug test and background check, which I could not pass. Then, through my cousin’s boyfriend, a professional carpet cleaner, I found work as an assistant. It was hard, physical work that paid cash daily, and I loved seeing the instant transformation in each job.
